Parkour and free running are two extreme sports that I consider extraordinary because of the amount of athleticism and skill it takes to perform in these extreme sports. Some say that parkour and free running are the same. I disagree. Parkour is all about getting from point A to point B the fastest way possible while using your body as efficiently as possible. Free running is more about tricking and doing flips and acrobatics. I do parkour and practice it everyday along with my group known as South Jersey Parkour(SJPK). We all try to get sessions together to practice and learn new moves from each other. We work more as a family because we try to help each other any way possible. I train at the warrior lab with Chris Wlilczewski who was on American Ninja Warrior. He is a really nice guy and if you live around Jersey you should check out the warrior lab.
Parkour and free running has grown in popularity in the last 20 years. It is mainly due to the amount of videos featuring dangerous stunts done by amateurs and professionals. A lot of people see parkour and free running as dangerous and reckless while others see it as a way to express themselves freely without the pressure and persecution from society. Parkour is not to be confused with free running, though they are similar. Parkour is all about getting from point a to point b the fastest way possible while using your body as efficiently and fluid as possible.
Some say that Parkour and free running are different. I disagree. There is no difference between the two. I say it's a pointless argument that shouldn't continue. Some believe that Parkour and free running should have competitions held. There shouldn't be competitions held at all. My argument is that who's to that they're the best at it? It's all about having fun and being with friends.
I do parkour almost everyday. I used to do it everyday until school came around. I try to balance my schedule to make sure that it doesn't interfere with my training. I will continue to do parkour. It is one the most amazing sports in the world to me. a lot of people don't realize the kind of training that goes with parkour and free running. There are a lot of stretches, conditioning exercises, strength training regiments, and cardio workouts. It involves a lot of mental strength as well. A lot of people think it's easy. It's not.
I find free running to be an awesome way to expression yourself and it looks cool to watch too~
ReplyDeleteWhat type of shoes do you wear when you are free-running? I don't free-run, but the shoes that I'm partial to for outdoor activities are Vibram Five Fingers. They would likely be useful because you can move all toes individually, and they have a rubberized bottom for grip. Though, they may wear out quicker with the friction.
ReplyDeleteMostly running shoes. ko's, vibrams, arikakes, k-swiss, adidas, etc. all good shoes for free running and parkour
ReplyDeleteAny good places around Blackwood to practice? I found one good spot, it looks like some kind of outdoor senior citizens' exercise facility with all sorts of weirdly positioned bars and ramps and stuff, but it's a bit of a drive.
ReplyDeleteI gotta try that place out. where is it located? The playground next to the campus is just full of potential. I haven't gone yet, but I'm highly interested
ReplyDeleteGah! Sorry, I thought I'd get notified if you responded. It's somewhere in Cherry Hill, I don't have the exact address, but I'll ask my friend when I get a chance.
